Chapter Eleven: Nostalgic, Young Love

Riyan awoken, startled and bewildered. His last conscious memories consisted of the white wolf, a blinding light, and the smell of soggy leaves. He was no longer on the floor of the Forsaken Woods, but lying on fresh, soft sheets.

Riyan sat up and looked around, it must of been midday, the sun’s rays were peeking through the curtains of a window nearby. There were books upon books spewed everywhere, many were dusty while others were in a different language that were barely even legible. The ceiling resembled some sort of celestial globe, he noticed Mars immediately as he possessed the heart of Mars and channeled his magic via the planet.

On another desk, there was quite an arrangement of magic globes as well was brightly-colored rocks of all sorts and sizes. Where was he?

Just as he wondered, a girl with radiant white and orange hair enters the room. Her piercing blue eyes immediately met his. Riyan recognized her immediately. Alyssa.

It had been a while since he had last seen her, but she was as breathtaking as ever.

She approaches him and hands him a flask filled with blood, then immediately slaps him.

Riyan wondered why Alyssa was so upset with him. It was true that he left Arcadia unattended, but that matter didn’t involve her.

“I’m sorry,” Riyan says, sternly.

“You think a ‘sorry’ will suffice for what you did to me?” Alyssa responds, angrily.

“That’s the thing, I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to be sorry about?” he asks her, clearly confused.

Alyssa goes quiet. Her young days of longing to be by his side had turned out to be unrequited. She quickly hides the markings on her upper-arm, but Riyan saw what it was. She had gotten his named tattooed on her.

Riyan casually coughs and changes the subject, “How did you know I was going to need blood when I awoken?”

“The dead. They whisper about everything.” And it was true, Alyssa had been born with a veil, she could hear them clearly.

Riyan stares at her more.

“I have always been able to hear them, I just never told you about it. I mean… I probably would have if you stuck around.” Alyssa spoke again in a matter-of-factly tone.

“Is that why you always wore headphones and listened to that racket so loudly?”

“It’s not ‘racket’ if it drowns out the things you don’t want to hear. Anyway,” she continues on, “what were you doing, face-down in the woods? Doesn’t sunlight hurt you nowadays?”

“I– um, got into a fight. With a werewolf, unexpectedly. Then, I was hit by the princess and her horn, I never knew she would be capable of that!”

“YOU ran into Princess Vienna?? And again, what about the sunlight??” Alyssa asks very loudly.

“It wasn’t intentional, I was resolving an issue with someone… else. I normally have a spell conjured to protect me from the sun, but seeing as I was unconscious… Thanks for saving me…” Riyan goes quiet.

“This issue doesn’t sound resolved. What did you do.” Alyssa demanded, clearly ignoring his ‘thanks’.

“I will handle it. I just… have to find out where she went.”

“Where who went? I’m sorry, care to elaborate??”

“Alyssa, I have some things to deal with and it’s pretty urgent that I do so.”

“What did you do.” She repeated.

“I… may have turned a girl… an elf… into a vampire.”

“W-w-what…?? Why would you even do that…”

“I did not hesitate to change her. Her scent drove me crazy… I never thought of anything else but to make her mine… eternally. Most of the time, I have my vampirism in control… but not last night.” Riyan answers.

“S-so…” Alyssa begins to speak, “do you have feelings her now?…”

Riyan goes quiet, he wasn’t sure what his feelings were for Zephii exactly, but it was a yearning desire. He switched his thoughts to Alyssa, as an apprentice, he remembered their young days at Wayland. They had spent so much time together after all those magic courses, they were practically inseparable. How was he so oblivious to her feelings towards him?

He looks at Alyssa, her face was hard to read. She notices his stare and promptly turns her back to him as he comes up behind her and wraps his arms around her shoulders.

“I will resolve this and once it’s settled and if you’re still waiting for me, I will return to you,” Riyan whispers.

“You are the piece of me, I wish I didn’t need…” Alyssa thinks to herself, quietly.

Chapter Ten: Light of my Life

Vienna & Hyperion soar back into the sky towards the Forlorn Woods where they had left Chrom in mid-battle.

“Find him, Hyperion,” Vienna tells the griffin with worry in her voice.

The griffin nods as he scans the forest and catches a glimpse of shimmery liquid, Hyperion steers towards the ground. It was blood, whether the werewolf’s or the vampire’s, they would soon find out.

They follow the trail to see Chrom nearly passed out, his white fur had splotches or red in multiple areas. Vienna shrieks when she catches sight of her dear Chrom and runs to him immediately. She quickly places his head on her lap and sees that he was still breathing.

Out of nowhere, Riyan appears and yells, “THERE YOU ARE!”

Vienna hears him and raises her arms up to protect Chrom as her horn illuminates and creates a protective barrier around herself and her werewolf. Riyan hits the barrier and is knocked out cold.

“What just happened…?” Vienna spoke quietly, her horn had never reacted that way before. She pushes the thought away as Chrom needed help right away.

“Hyperion, put Chrom on your back please, we need to take him to the sanatorium to see the arch bishop there. She’ll know what to do.”

Hyperion nods and hoists Chrom onto his back then lowers back down to let Vienna climb on.

“I hope we’re not too late, please hang on Chrom, I can’t lose you…” Vienna says as tears start flowing freely.

As they reach the sanatorium, Vienna could see Bambi standing just inside the glass doors by the information counter, chatting quietly to the assistant beside her. Bambi turns and sees the princess arriving and rushes to the doors.

She could clearly see that Vienna was worried and noticed the wolf on Hyperion’s back, blood was dripping down but it did not belong to the griffin.

“Your majesty,” Bambi quickly bowed and quickly said, “we need to get him to the emergency room… This is Chrom, correct?”

Word had quickly spread throughout Arcadia that one of the most distinguished royal guards had been bitten by a werewolf while protecting the princess.

Bambi rushed Chrom into the healing chamber and efficiently cleaned up his wounds and fur of the blood that had been lost. The moon would set soon and make way for the sun to rise, Chrom should return to his human self soon enough.

Bambi calmly places her hands and murmurs, “Nesta!”

A warm, green glow emits from her hands and into the wolf’s body, the blood quickly drying up and the wounds began to heal, she knew he would heal quickly since werewolves were powered by the moonlight. Bambi bandages Chrom up and props his head onto a pillow made of fur, similar to his own.

Bambi makes her way to the princess and says, “He will make a full recovery, your majesty. I was able to heal up his wounds since the moon had not fully set yet. He should revert back to his human self soon enough.”

She leads Vienna to where Chrom was sleeping soundly, he looked at peace.

After such a long night, Vienna found herself completely exhausted. She sits down next to her wolf and rests her head on his warm chest while holding his paw and falls asleep.

Only an hour had passed and Chrom transformed back into a man. He opens his pale, red eyes in a slight daze to see his precious princess, sleeping quietly as she nuzzled into his side. He only remembered fractions of what had happened the night before, but it must have been bad if he ended up in the sanatorium and for his princess to be here waiting for him. He moves his arm over to touch her soft, pastel hair.

At that moment, Vienna wakes up to see her beloved guard back to his normal self, tears well up in her eyes as she cries, “Chrom!”

She begins scolding him, “Why would you go after a vampire?! You only *JUST* got bitten by a werewolf and this being your first time turning–“

Chrom pulls Vienna close and…

His affection caught her by surprise, but she accepted it wholeheartedly. Chrom had always been so distant with her, but Vienna knew he cared for her deeply, more than his emotions would show.

Chrom realized not what Vienna almost lost last night, but what he would have lost. He decided to finally let her thaw his cold, stony heart. She was the light of his life.

Chapter Nine: Reunited

It had been a few silent moments since they had left the ground, Zephii clung onto this otherworldly girl.

“Um… Thank you for saving me… that wolf came out from nowhere,” she spoke softly.

“That wolf is my beloved Chrom, I only pray to Ananke that he won’t be hurt by that man,” Vienna replied.

“Beloved? But isn’t he… a werewolf? And why were you out here so late? You seem… very royal.”

“I’m actually Vienna, princess of Arcadia, I came out here to look for Chrom, the werewolf you speak of… You see, he’s only a werewolf because of me. Why are you out here?” Vienna asks genuinely.

“I was actually kidnapped by that man… He turned me into…” Zephii goes quiet.

Vienna looks back and takes a closer look at Zephii and sees slights stains of blood on her mouth and clothes.

“So you’re a vampire? Why haven’t you tried to attack me? And your eyes… I thought vampires have red eyes,” the princess says in a matter-of-factly tone.

“I’m… I’m not sure myself, Riyan, that man, was also confused. He mentioned something about my elven blood since he had never seen a vampire elf before.”

“Hmm, that is interesting. Where is your home, by the way? Hyperion can take you there easily. Or is there somewhere else you’d rather go?”

“Can you take me to the Knighton castle? I need to find Brink…”

“Prince Brink?? Ugh, I guess I’ll have to meet him sooner than later.”

“…Oh?”

There were night-time guards all over Knighton as Hyperion landed at the steps of the Crown Hall. The guards block their way.

“I am the princess of Arcadia, I demand you let me in to meet crown prince Brink,” Vienna says sternly.

The guards notice her horn and do not question her identity as they open the grand doors for her to enter.

“Do you know where his chambers are?”

Zephii shakes her head, but turns to Kimochi.

“Can you find him, Kimmie? It shouldn’t be too far from here.”

Kimochi nods in reply. She sniffs around then disappears into a dark corridor. Only a few moments pass when a very sleep-deprived Brink and Titan emerge with Kimochi in the lead. Brink notices Zephii immediately and rushes to embrace her. Zephii begins to sob.

“Where did you go? I was so afraid you would never come back!” Brink says hurriedly.

“I was kidnapped by a man named Riyan… He… he turned me into a monster,” Zephii replies.

“A monster..?” Brink then notices the blood stains. His eyes widen.

“He said he made me into a vampire… but I’m not normal. He said my eyes didn’t change color like his did…”

Brink quickly takes her hands into his and holds them close and says, “Whatever you are, I don’t care. I want to be with you and we will get through this together.”

Tears stream down Zephii’s cheeks and she nods.

Brink finally notices Vienna and the giant Hyperion. He clears his throat and says, “Hello, welcome to Knighton. I’m–“

“Brink. I know~ I’ve heard about you, actually,” Vienna interrupts.

“Oh?” He notices her horn, “OH! You are the princess from Arcadia, we’re supposed to meet in a few days…”

“I can clearly agree with you that the meeting for us is 100% unecessary, especially you being promised to another and I, the same.”

Brink nods in agreement and turns to Zephii, “Did she save you?”

Zephii nods again.

“Thank you… for saving my future wife. I was lost without her and had no clue where to find her.”

Vienna gracefully nods her head and says, “Well, I must be on my way, I have a beloved werewolf to find.”

Chapter Eight: Immortality’s Price

It had been three days since Zephii lost consciousness, but it did not worry Riyan as he went through the same ordeal when he transitioned. He had left Zephii alone in the cottage because he knew and trusted this fact.

Zephii is stirred awake by an excruciating hunger, something she never experienced before, it tore her from the inside-out. As she began to panic, Riyan enters the cottage dragging in a dirty man with darting eyes. It was the middle of the night, all she could hear was his raspy breathing and fast heartbeat.

He throws the man at Zephii’s feet and says, “Eat.”

Riyan sees that she is bewildered as well as reluctant and speaks again, “Don’t worry, love, he’s a criminal. He deserves death more than anyone here.”

Riyan takes out a small, needle-like knife and jabs the man’s neck, blood starts oozing out as he cries out in pain.

The smell is intoxicating, Zephii reacts and goes directly for his jugular vein and begins to drink. She drinks until the man is lifeless, his cries were no longer heard. As she finishes, she had just killed a person without a second thought. She frightened herself, yet she did not feel guilty. Her transition was complete.

Riyan places his hand on her chin and lift up her head, he stares into her eyes.

“Peculiar… your eyes aren’t red like mine, but you’re exactly like me now.”

“…What do you mean ‘like you’?” Zephii mutters.

Riyan moves closer to her and begins to lick the remnant blood on her lips. She grabs his hand and pulls away.

“What’s wrong? I gave you the gift of immortality! You should be thanking me… not pushing me away. I made you so we could be together eternally.”

“Why do you think this was what I wanted? I had a life… I had love… I had a family! I don’t want to drink blood…”

Zephii rushes outside and past the magical barrier without a thought. A blur of white hair knocks her down and pins her.

A giant, white wolf stood on top of her as his red eyes pierced into hers. A werewolf.

Riyan rushes to where Zephii is with Kimochi trotting behind him, he casts a spell against the wolf, but it did not work, it was then Riyan also realized that it was a werewolf. He lunges onto the wolf and knocks it off of Zephii. Kimochi hurries to Zephii’s side. She was luckily not bitten.

While Riyan and Chrom fought back and forth, a griffin lands down near Zephii with a beautiful rider on its back, her horn glowing as her pearlescent hair flowed magically behind her. She reaches out her hand to Zephii and pulls her onto the griffin’s back and they soar into the night.

Chapter Seven: Unicorn Princess

While in Arcadia, King Varo announces the marriage arrangements to his daughter, Princess Vienna, interrupting her as she brushes her long, pearlescent and multi-colored hair. She turns to face him and reveals a magnificent horn on her forehead.

“But daddy…” Vienna pouts, she knew bargaining with her father would not work.

It was known that Vienna had already chosen her beloved Chrom when he took the cursed werewolf bite in order to protect her. Chrom would now disappear once a month while he transforms into a wolf and was as savage as most beasts are. He did not want to harm the citizens of Arcadia, especially not Vienna, so he would travel to the Forlorn Woods before the full moon rose with his valiant steed, a griffin named Hyperion, to keep him in check.

The king poked his daughter’s cheek and calmly says, “I understand your feelings for Chrom, but marrying the elven prince will greatly strengthen our nation. Will you at least entertain us by meeting with him? You are to travel to Knighton in three days to meet the Crown Prince Brink.”

Vienna pouts again, it was the first night Chrom would not be there for the night for her to cry to, his strong shoulders were usually there when she needed him. Tears streamed down her face as she left her father in her room as she rushes out.

It must not have been long since Chrom snuck off, he had mentioned that he would go and transform in the woods, a ways from Arcadia. Vienna sees a piebald stallion tied to a post nearby, the guard it belonged to must be in the pub nearby. She quietly approaches the stallion as it begins to startle, she quickly calms it down. She had a natural connection to horses because of her unicorn curse, all thanks to her matriarchal ancestry, a distant relative who stole a unicorn’s horn. The stallion neighs quietly and allows her to mount him, she rides  towards the Forlorn Woods, where she assumes Chrom has run off to.

It was dusk when Vienna arrived to the edge of the woods. She had visited it when she was a little girl and then again on the day Chrom was bitten. It was a lot eerier now that the sun was setting, the trees and howling wind were not as friendly. Something nearby snaps a tree branch and startles the stallion, he rears up out of fear and Vienna falls out of his saddle. The stallion darts off back towards Arcadia as a beast lets out a shrilling howl. The full moon had risen and Vienna was alone, she was frightened.

A massive white wolf appears out of the shadows, its teeth bearing as saliva drips from its mouth. Wolves normally had golden to brown eyes, but this one had the color that reminded her of garnet or even blood. The wolf let out a low growl as it approaches Vienna.

“Chrom, where are you??” Vienna manages to cry out.

At that moment, Hyperion lands down from the sky with a heavy ‘thud’. He roars and rears on his hind legs while his front talons swipe at the wolf menacingly. The wolf backs down and its snarl slowly fades as its eyes dilate.

Though she was still frightened, Vienna put out her hand towards the wolf and it responded by pressing his huge head against her hand. It was Chrom.

Vienna lets out a sigh of relief as she hugs him, her tears were flowing freely now. Chrom knelts down to allow Vienna to climb onto his back, he could not return to Arcadia in his current state, but he could not leave his beloved alone in the forest. He heads towards a cave, not too far from where he found her, they would need to stay there for the night. Hyperion followed them from above. Vienna felt safe now that she found Chrom. He was now not just her protector, but her wolf as well.

As he laid down to rest, Vienna came to nuzzle next to him, his white fur was soft and he was so warm, she fell asleep quickly.

Chrom stirs awake softly and leaves the cave as Hyperion watches him go. The loyal steed knew to stay with the princess and to keep her safe.

He doesn’t notice, but Vienna watches him go.

Chapter Six: Arranged Marriage

Brink grudgingly makes it back to Knighton as the sun is setting. Kerberos lets out a low growl as the castle gates open for them to enter. Brink dismounts and heads into the castle where his mother, Queen Sura, and father, King Tiberius, were waiting for him.

Both of their faces were stern as their son approach them.

“Where have you been all day.” His father spoke quietly, it wasn’t even a question, but a statement.

“Father, I’ve been out looking for Zephii, she’s been missing since early this morning. I have not been able to find any trace of her…”

“Enough. I do not want to hear you speak of that girl’s name any longer. You are the crown prince of Knighton. Your mother and I have chosen a suitable wife for you, one that will greatly strengthen Knighton as well as gain us a powerful ally.”

“…A wife? I want to marry ZEPHII. Have I not expressed that enough??”

“Well, it seems lucky opportunity is in our favor as your… Zephii, is it, is now missing. What if she had run away? Tired of living her common life?”

Brink hated his father at this moment, his words that judged Zephii struck him like knives. Before he could voice his retaliation, his father spoke again.

“I am grounding you to your chambers. You will meet with your potential future wife in three days. She will arrive here as a guest and will be treated with the utmost manners. Her name is Vienna Risa Leitner.”

Brink mumbles something inaudible under his breath.

“I will warn you though, my son, she is from Arcadia, the human capital, but she is not just a normal human. Her maternal lineage has passed down the curse of the unicorn horn, I would advise you not to stare nor question the horn. It’s for your own good, son.” The King gives his son a tiny smirk and pats him on the shoulder as he exits the Crown Hall.

Brink slowly walks towards his private chambers, his spirit was defeated. Where was Zephii? Was she okay? Could he never be with her? Could he even possibly marry someone that he did not love? So many thoughts came to his mind, sleep seemed hours away.

story

Chapter Five: Distraught

Brink frantically arrives at Zephii’s home and barely even knocks on the door as he opens it. Her mother was in tears and distraught while her father sat near the fireplace, his face sullen and disconnected.

“Zephii. Where is she? Do we know who took her?” Brink asks urgently.

Her father makes eye contact with Brink and slowly just shakes his head, the sadness was contagious and overwhelmed Brink.

Brink breaks the silence as he spoke again, “I will find her, don’t worry. I won’t stop until she is back and safe.”

He heads back outside where his spirit beast, Titan, and loyal steed, a majestic lion named Keroberos, mounts and rides east towards the Forlorn Woods.

Riyan steps outside as the sun is setting, raises his hands and sets up a veil on the cottage. The cottage appeared back to its original state, a forsaken home that had been forgotten long ago. Riyan hears hoofbeats approaching as soon as he finished his spell. With the veil up, a person could look Riyan in the eye, but would not be able to see him nor pass the faux image of the cottage in front of them. He stands there to see who would come this far into the Woods. To his surprise, it’s the crown prince of Knighton.

Brink notices the shabby cottage, but the Woods were quiet, nothing stirred as he scanned the area. Where could Zephii had gone? It was not like her to just leave her mother at the market alone.

Talon- and paw-beats approach Brink and Rayleigh speaks, “Your highness! Your father is asking for you back at the castle at once.”

“Rayleigh, Zephii has gone missing. It’s not like her to leave without notice, we have to find her. I need to know that she’s safe…”

“I will continue the search for her. Please, your highness, the king wishes to speak to you.”

Brink glances once more at the old, forsaken cottage and sighs. He reluctantly steers Keroberos back home.

story

Chapter Four: Forever Entwined

As the morning dew set itself upon the abundant grass of Knighton, a soft wind brushed Zephii’s cheeks and through her hair. She and her mother prepared their harvest of the week to sell at the marketplace. Strolling along the street with their wagon full of fresh fruits and vegetables, Zephii greets the nearby merchants as she passes them her spirit beast, Kimochi, in tow. Reaching their stall, her mother rushes to the back to prepare, while Zephii sets up the shop in the front, Kimochi starts to help unload the produce.

It was busy, elves loved their fresh produce and enjoyed purchasing and trading among their neighbors, so Zephii’s stall sold out easily. Her father was very popular among the elves.

“Let’s pack up and head home, Zephii, your father will be delighted to hear that we sold out within a couple of hours,” her mother smiled happily as she packs up the wagon. It always warmed her heart to see her mother so happy.

Riyan has always found elves so peculiar, he often checked into various guest houses in Knighton and staying for a few days here and there. Elves were quite opposite of humans, there were no chaos nor disruption in Knighton, everything flowed smoothly and peacefully. He often wore a hooded cape while in Knighton to keep his vampirism hidden as he assumed it would not be taken lightly among the elves. He had been working on a spell to enchant his blood-red eyes to a normal color, but had not perfected it just yet. While lost in thought, Riyan notices the beautiful teal-haired elf, smiling and chatting to elder elves that walked passed her. Her scent was alluring and intoxicating.

She could be the one.

Riyan approached Zephii and their eyes meet, her eyes suddenly glazed over as Riyan spoke to her.

“Tell me your name.”

“Zephii,” she answers robotically.

“Zephii, come with me, darling.”

Zephii begins to follow Riyan, Kimochi whimpers and follows along, looking back at Zephii’s mother, in hopes of her noticing her absence. He leads her towards the Forlorn Woods, they had been walking for a while. They reach an old, abandoned cottage when Riyan waves his fingers to tidy it up. Kimochi tugs on Zephii’s blouse and startles her.

Blinking repeatedly, Zephii comes to her senses and realizes that she is no longer at the marketplace.

“…Where am I?” she mumbles as she scans her surroundings.

“Forlorn Woods, you followed me here,” Riyan answers quietly, “now please, enter the cottage.”

At the same moment, he waves his hand to imprison Kimochi in a translucent bubble and moves her into the cottage.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING! LET HER GO!” Zephii yells as Kimochi claws at the impenetrable bubble.

Riyan offers his hand to Zephii, “Don’t worry, I won’t harm her. I only want you.”

When she refuses, he makes eye contact with her again, gestures towards the cottage door and says, “After you.” Her eyes glaze over once more and she enters the cottage obediently.

Her scent was more than he can bear now that they were in an enclosed area, he couldn’t not resist her anymore. He bites his wrist and feeds her his blood, just one drop would be enough to bound her to him, he would no longer be alone. He can hear her pulse as he draws closer to her neck and bites her deeply. Zephii lets out a cry that awakens her from the daze. She felt like dying and helpless, her life was being drained. Her arms refused to do what she wanted them to do. She blacks out as Riyan lowers her onto a bed he conjured so easily.

Zephii would sleep for three more nights before her thirst will awaken her.

story

Chapter Three: Mournful Regret

It had been a while since Riyan had longed for companionship, ever since the mysterious vampiress who turned him abandoned him, his trust in others dwindled. He emerges out of the old, deserted cottage, a place he had found solace in and tussles his crimson hair as the sun glistens on a pair of eyes to match said-hair. Riyan was glad he still harnessed his warlock powers for he would be lost without them.

He had set out on a journey, only just a year ago, to find a cure for his brother, James. But his efforts were futile. James was born a very sickly child, much like their late-mother. He was the most precious person to Riyan. Even knowing his brother’s disease was terminal, Riyan wanted to exhaust every option he could. His journey took him far and wide, but no end was in sight. He eventually ran into a seductress who called herself ‘Alexandria’, whom delayed his return to Arcadia, to James.

Alexandria revealed herself as a vampiress and seduced Riyan. She grew fond of him and turned him into a vampire, only to grow bored of him quite quickly as she abandoned him only a few days later.

Fighting to control his thirst, Riyan could not return to his weak brother in that state, he had to learn to control it. After months of conjuring failures for his thirst as well as the his weakness to sunlight, Riyan was able conjure the spells that would allow him to live as a normal as he did before.

Returning to Arcadia, Riyan’s quickly headed towards medical center where James had stayed. He quickly recognizes the young, elven acolyte who cared for James day and night, she was often at his bedside as soon as he had awaken.

“Bambi.”

The elven acolyte was like a breath of fresh air, her sky blue and pink hair was unnatural to humans, but it suited her so well. She was surreal.

Bambi turns around and recognizes Riyan, tears begin to well up in her bright, green eyes. She had always been happy and bubbly the few times he met her, but now he could sense the sadness that surrounded her.

“Riyan… what took you so long?” she cries. The tears fell freely as she hurried towards him and embraced him warmly. This caught Riyan by surprise.

“What’s wrong, Bambi? Where’s James??”

Bambi starts sobbing, her words were incomprehensible as she stuttered about James’ last days on this Earth. Riyan softly pushes her away as she slumps to the ground and heads towards the exit. Other caregivers surround Bambi and try to console her as they watch Riyan walk away, he had been a few weeks late to bid farewell to his beloved, younger brother. He would never see James again.

From that day onward, Riyan would never be the same again.

story

Chapter Two: Destiny Intertwined

… One and only? How could this be, they only just met. Can feelings that are so deep and intimate be discovered within a matter of minutes? Zephii had never been in love, so the Crown Prince’s words left her confused.

His lips lightly brushed hers as he spoke, she pulls back and blushes.

“Your majesty… what are you doing…?” Zephii asks him, cautiously.

Brink immediately smiles in response and says, “You’ll see, my love.”

He rushes off after his lord knight and disappears in the distance. Zephii was left there, alone and bewildered. What had just happened? Things like this never happened to her, her days had been monotonous and she had accepted it the way it was. But the prince had been such a wild card, it left Zephii’s heart pounding.

Brink visited Zephii often after that day. Months turned into years and they had grown extremely close and fell in love with one another, even if Brink’s parents were against their relationship. Brink was always meant to wed someone with a royal bloodline, an arranged marriage, so to speak. So far, his parents had not mentioned who, but Brink knew it would be soon.

Zephii knew that it was forbidden to fall in love with her prince, but it couldn’t be helped. It was like he had said upon their first meeting, she now felt that he is her one true love.

“Brink… what will happen when you tell your parents about us? Aren’t you already promised to someone else with a higher bloodline? Surely they won’t accept me since I was born with common blood…” Zephii constantly doubted herself.

“I was actually thinking about that myself,” Brink replies, “I’m thinking I can win my parents over, I’m sure they would understand, I mean, I am the only heir to the throne. They can’t take my decisions that lightly, can they?”

He leans in closer and kisses her lightly, “I love you, Zephii…”

Meanwhile, at the Knighton castle…

“Where has that boy gone again?” King Tiberius shouts, his voice filling the royal chamber.

Rayleigh approaches the King and responds, “I will go fetch him at this moment, your majesty.” He bows and exits the room.

Brink’s mother, Queen Sura, sits next to her husband, clicking her tongue quietly.

“Will you order his will today, my King?” the Queen asks in a soft voice.

“I shall. I cannot allow his relations with a commoner to go on any further, he is to marry someone with royal blood and to strengthen our kingdom. It is his duty as the Crown Prince to do so.”

His mother nods in agreement and asks, “Will it be Arcadia then? As they are the closest kingdom to us, it would be wise to control this entire continent by uniting our two kingdoms. However, I heard the young princess is cursed, will that change your mind, my King?”

“Cursed or not, it is her bloodline we need. Rumor has it that the curse only affects the females of that ancestry, which will not be an obstacle as we are aiming for a male heir to take the thrown.”

“Do you think he will be happy with our decision for him?” the Queen asks.

“Were we happy when we first met? Of course not, I never saw you until our wedding day. But now we are here, are we not?”

Queen Sura remembered their first day, it was definitely not a happy day for either party. But with time, love eventually appeared.

“My King, I am sure Princess Vienna will make a fine wife for our son and we pray that they will produce a young heir for us.”

As they finish their conversation, Brink happens to catch the tail-end of it. His heart sank as his mother’s words left her lips. The King and Queen turn around to see the shock and sadness in their son’s eyes. Brink turns away and heads up to his chambers, his spirit beast, Titan, in tow.
